The Hungry Games

December 11th, 2013

“Being strong heroine of entire franchise hard work”

Take a look at this fantastic parody from Sesame Street, The Hungry Games. I’ll let you work out what film it’s parodying for yourself.

Although I’m not a fan of the way Sesame Street has been modernised, it certainly has its moments! I still have a lot of love for the Katy Perry cameo, Hot ‘n’ Cold. I still remember back in the day, learning to read with Big Bird (with Sesame Street on in the background. Wait, what?).

Enjoy!

#cnmac13

November 9th, 2013

Excoity-toighty.

Just travelling up to Landan on the train ready for #cnmac13 (The Christian New Media Conference).

Last year I tweeted so much that I managed to hit Twitter’s daily limit, think I might have to take it easy this year.

Lansdowne’s very own @dnheys (‘oh ancient Dave Heys’) is speaking at one of the breakout groups on video streaming. Luke and I are planning to ask some difficult questions of him. Especially ones about poo, bit rates. And compression.

Hopefully today will give some blog-spiration…

Edits by Luke.

Music and Short Talks

October 29th, 2013

Don’t be too blown away by the onslaught of blog posts…

I’m so excited for the event we’re putting on tonight, as part of our Twenties and Students programme at Lansdowne. We’re hosting a TED-style event at a local wine bar with some really diverse topics and great speakers, along with some musical performance. Can’t wait!

Ancient – Battle in Swanage Bay, AD 877

October 7th, 2013

This is pretty cool, a memorial on Swanage beach to a battle that took place over a thousand years ago, during the time of Alfred the Great against some pesky Danes.

I don’t really have much more to say about it other than that it’s pretty cool.

UCCF Student Worker Forum

September 9th, 2013

Last week Miles and I had the privilege of being at UCCF’s first Student Worker Forum, a short conference that coincided with the end of the annual National Forum for student leadership. It was a great time of leadership, worship (see picture of Olly and his band) and networking with other student workers from across the country. Following the success of this year’s event, the plan is to keep running this each year, so I can’t encourage you enough to come along next September. If nothing else will persuade you, the hotel is amazing. Just a shame we didn’t have time for the spa!

The Honest Truth about ‘Fame’

August 15th, 2013

It’s really good to see someone with such a high profile stepping out and sharing what’s on his heart. Ashton Kutcher’s speech (below) is honest and humble, and aims to cut through the myths that Hollywood proclaims as truth. Definitely worth a watch.

Class Wars

July 4th, 2013

I will happily discuss issues of class all day long, but this just takes it one step too far. Literally can’t take this woman seriously for one second. And yet still find it quite enjoyable watching, despite constant cringing…

Leap Motion

July 2nd, 2013

And in the second of today’s tech posts, Leap Motion.

This is going to be big. I can see so many potential uses for this that I want to put it in every category under the sun.

Think Iron Man interaction with computers. I so want this. Lots.

The nice thing is that they’re bringing developers along for the ride too, meaning this is going to grow big time.

I’m sure there’s still a way to go, but, for me, this is the future.

iPad Education

November 14th, 2012

Just a quick post to share an interesting article I came across in my twitter feed, about using the iPad in a home-education environment. It’s nicely written and shows just one advantage of the tech-heavy age we live in. I just found it refreshing amidst all of the criticism of technology and social media that’s about. Also it’s a nice break from hearing about Samsung and Apple’s disputes with each other…

Gogogo here for the article :)
